Virginia Erickson

Virginia Erickson, 84 year old resident of Upsala, MN died Friday, March 6 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 10 at 2:00 P.M. at the Community Covenant Church in Upsala, MN with Rev. Craig Johnson officiating. Friends may call from 1:00-2:00 P.M on Tuesday at the church. Virginia was born October 28, 1924 in Mitchell, SD to the late John and Nettie (Gudeman) Craig. She attended school in Mitchell, and Dakota Wesleyan University before obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Minnesota. She furthered her degree in Library Science from St. Cloud State University. Virginia was united in marriage to Elwood "Woody" Erickson on August 24, 1951 at the Congregational Church in Mitchell, South Dakota. The two newly weds came home to the Erickson family business in Upsala to raise a family. Virginia taught high school and junior high School Social Studies in Buffalo, Minnesota. She continued her career in education when in 1968, she served as librarian at the Upsala Area Schools retiring in 1980. After retiring from teaching, Virginia and Woody wintered in Brooksville, FL and spent their summers in Upsala, MN. Virginia moved back to Upsala after Woody's death on April 29, 2004. In 1993, Virginia made a public profession of her faith in Jesus Christ. She continued to live her life growing in her faith and in her love for her Lord. Virginia was an artist and painted beautiful pictures. She played the organ and served in this capacity for many years at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala, MN. She was a member of Community Covenant Church. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Linda Berg and husband, Dan of St. Cloud, MN, Craig Erickson and wife, Wanda, of Upsala, MN; grandchildren, Paul Berg of St. Cloud, MN, Caleb and Chanel Berg of Baton Rouge, LA, Hannah and Nate Elrod of Baton Rouge, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood "Woody" Erickson on April 29, 2004; brother, John Craig; parents, John and Nettie (Gudeman) Craig. In Lieu of Flowers Memorial Preferred
