Vernon Hanson

Vernon Hanson, 81 year old resident of Long Prairie, MN died Tuesday, September 1 at the St. Cloud Hospital. A funeral service for Vernon will be on Saturday, September 12 at 10:00 A.M. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Little Falls, MN with Rev. Jean Megorden officiating. The burial will be held at Bear Head Cemetery near Pillsbury, MN. A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 12 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Little Falls, MN.



Vernon Cecil Hanson was born March 8, 1934 to the late Frank and Gladys (Martin) Hanson in Culdrum Township, Morrison County, Minnesota. Vernon was delivered by his dad and uncle at his parents home. He attended school in Culdrum Township, Minneapolis and Wayzata, MN. Vernon worked for the Rail Road doing track repairs for a few years at the age of 19. He was united in marriage to Bonnie A. Mitchell on September 23, 1971 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Randall, MN. He then went to work for Swiften Co. for five years. Vernon worked at King Foods in Cottage Grove for 15 years as a meat cutter. He hurt his back and leg on the job and was forced to go on disability in 1976. He retired and the couple move to Little Falls, MN in 1980. The couple finally resided in Long Prairie, MN, to enjoy their retirement years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Vernon was very kind to animals and children. He was a devoted husband and dedicated worker.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Bonnie Hanson of Long Prairie, MN; daughter, Ann Hanson of Long Prairie, MN, John (Linda) Koenig of Hewitt, MN, Paul Hanson of St. Paul, MN; siblings, Bernice Kay of Felicity, OH, Vi Hanson of Little Falls, MN, Grace Finken of St. Rose, MN, Bert Hanson of Elk River, MN and Johnny Hanson of Swanville, MN and six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gladys Hanson and siblings, Dewayne Hanson and Irene Kettelson.
