Vernon Edgar Tanner was born August 22, 1918 in Eustis, Nebraska to Milon and Rose (Huckfeldt) Tanner. Our Heavenly Father received him with loving arms in heaven on November 2, 2014. All who knew Vernon were blessed to know him and share his long life and to be a part of his stories. Vernon was blessed to enjoy 96 years of life and loved to tell stories. His first love was his family; one of the next would be fishing. Every available opportunity, you would find him on the water with a fishing rod in hand. Just a couple weeks ago he had a dream that he caught a 29 pound crappie on a 5 pound line while fishing off the dock. Vernon had an amazing memory. Even at the end he was telling stories about his life adventures. He would tell stories from his childhood all the way through just a few weeks ago. He would tell stories of his first car, moving to and from California. His multiple jobs from ranching, picking oranges and lemons, bartending, selling cars, selling wood, hauling cattle, driving fertilizer truck, owning a dry cleaning business to being a dozer operator. Vernon was a man of many different trades, too numerous to mention. Vernon had a love of reading Louis Lamour westerns. When he would run out of westerns he would call his daughter Doreen and tell her they had to go to the flea market to get more books. Vernon was also an avid Twins fan and never missed watching or listening to their games.Vernon married Laverne Boser in 1944. They were blessed with two children. Vernon & Laverne were later divorced in 1963. In the spring of 1964, Vernon met Mary Langner and on March 5, 1965 they were united in marriage. Vernon not only took on a wife but also her ten children. They went on to have four more together. He did all this with open arms and a big loving heart.Vernon will be missed dearly by his loving wife of 49 years: Mary and their children: Terry Tanner, Gloria Langner, Doreen & Bert Hanson, Al Langner, Heddie & Don Wolbeck, Tom & Traci Langner, Veronica Langner, Sharon Wickham & Bob Schneider, Linette Thesing & Brian Kiess, Janene & Les Bell, Mike & Kerry Tanner.
