Verle Lafaun Sobiech

Verle was born, July 1, 1920 in Todd County, MN to the late Elmer J. and Igna L. (Brastad) Schrupp. She grew up in Todd County near Lake Beauty and Morrison County. She attended country school and graduated from Little Falls High School with the Class of 1938. Verle was united in marriage to Lawrence L. Sobiech on November 5, 1940 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN. Following their marriage, Verle & Lawrence lived and farmed in Swanville Township, Morrison County, MN. During this time, Verle also worked at St. Otto's Care Center for 15 years. In August of 1988, the couple moved to Little Falls. Lawrence died January 30, 2009. Following his death, Verle continued living in Little Falls residing there until her death. Verle loved gardening, playing cards, music, reading and writing poetry and also volunteering at St. Otto's Care Center and at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls. At the age of 16 years, she received the 4-H Health Champion Award in Chicago, IL. She was very proud of her prize-winning tomatoes and loved making cookies and homemade bread for her family. Verle also enjoyed her class reunions and most recently her 70th class reunion of Little Falls High School. She loved being surrounded by her family. Verle is survived by her sons & daughters, Ronald (Barbara) Sobiech of Maple Grove, MN, Robert Sobiech of Little Falls, MN, Roger (Michele) Sobiech of Bella Vista, AR, Charles (Deborah) Sobiech of Swanville, MN, Janice (Victor) Schlangen of Avon, MN & Mary Guggemos & significant other, Larry Smiley, of Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren, Todd Sobiech, Scott Sobiech, Kevin Sobiech, Denise Dempsey, Kim Sobiech, Billie Jo Waltman, John Sobiech, Hannah Sobiech, Mark Schlangen, Amy Smith, Jake Schlangen, Mike Sobiech, Joe Sobiech & Steve Sobiech and 17 Great-Grandchildren; siblings, Clayton "Rusty" (Alyce) Schrupp of Grand Rapids, MN, Verlon Bourelle of Yuma, AZ, Arlyce Harms of Grand Rapids, MN and Barbara Spears of Eugene, OR. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence; parents; brother, Hercel "Hoot" Schrupp and a sister, Erma McQuirk. Casketbearers are Todd, Scott, Kevin, John, Mike, Joe & Steve Sobiech and Mark & Jake Schlangen.
