Vera Green, 101 year old resident of Little Falls, MN, died Tuesday, September 15 at St. Ottos Care Center in Little Falls, MN. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 26 at 11:00 A.M. at First United Church in Little Falls, MN with Rev. Eric Shin officiating. The burial will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, MN at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, October 26. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour opf service on Monday, October 26 at the church.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 31, 1914 to Aaron and Mamie Nelson.Vera became a lifelong resident of Little Falls after moving to the area with her parents and brother, Spencer, when she was 7 years old. After graduating from Little Falls High School, Vera obtained her degree as a registered nurse from St. Marys School of Nursing in Minneapolis. Following the death of her husband, Floyd, in 1961, she returned to college to complete her Bachelors degree in sociology and psychology from St. Cloud State University.Vera was hired by the Little Falls School District in 1966 as a school nurse and remained in this position until her retirement. She was recognized in the community and by her peers for her long and distinguished career, devotion to her students and remarkable energy and caring. Prior to her work as a school nurse, Vera served as a nurse with the Quartermaster Depot in Louisville, Kentucky and as a clinical nurse in Burbank, California during WWII. She married Floyd F. Green at the Little Church of the Flowers in Glendale, California in 1939. Following WWII, Vera and her husband returned to Minnesota and raised their 3 children: Jeff, Kathy and Beth. She was an active member of many organizations, including St. Gabriels Hospital Auxiliary, the Heartland Symphony, Humane Society, and the First United Church. Vera was known for her effervescence and indomitable spirit. Her steadfast courage in the face of personal tragedies and losses in her lifetime earned her the admiration of her family and friends as an individual who faced adversity with determination and grace. Vera was eternally optimistic, loving, and curious about all aspects of life. She was passionate about her children, nature, horseback riding, her beloved dogs, birds, and flower gardens, canoeing on the Mississippi River, travelling, and entertaining friends. She was well known and loved in her community for her unfailing cheerfulness, generosity, and delightful sense of humor. To the very end of her long and eventful life, she retained both her love of learning and the joy she experienced in being with her family and friends.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Donna Green of Porterfield, Wisconsin; her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Burt Hollenbeck of Richmond, New Hampshire; her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Tom Olson of Salt Lake City, Utah; 2 grand-daughters, and 4 great grandchildren.
