Sr. Doris Goldammer

November 27, 1916 — March 31, 2013

Sister Mary Doris (Harriet) Goldammer, 96, died on March 31, 2013, at St. Francis Convent, Little Falls, Minn. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis Convent on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. Friends may call at St. Francis Convent on Tuesday, April 2, from 4:30 - 8:30 p.m. and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral on April 3, at 11 a.m. Sister Doris was born on November 27, 1916, in Random Lake, Wis. She was the sixth of seven children born to the late William and Barbara (Altenhofen) Goldammer. She was accepted as a Franciscan Sister on August 12, 1946. She made first profession of vows on August 12, 1948, and final vows on August 12, 1951. She was a Franciscan Sister for 66 years. Sister Doris was quiet, gentle, loving person who did her secretarial work carefully and exactly. She was very sensitive by nature and compassionate in all of her relationships. As a Superior at the Children's Home, Sister Doris is remembered as gentle, kind and even-keeled. Nothing seemed to upset her gentle composure. She was so loved for the way she treated all of us. The staff in Angela Community said that Sister Doris was unique, funny and one-of-a kind. Card bingo was one of her favorite games. She could sing so beautifully when Sister Maurita Bernet came to sing and play guitar with the sisters. Like Saint Francis, Sister Doris was the "life of the party." On various holidays like Halloween, Sister Doris was the first to offer to get dressed up; then she wanted a picture taken of her in costume. Sister Doris had a deep love for Saints Francis and Clare and followed their examples in living the Gospel. She was grateful to her religious community for providing workshops, seminars and reading material that assisted her spiritual growth. Sister Doris was a secretary before she entered the convent and ministered as one after she entered. For a time she was secretary to Administration. She served in St. Cloud, Little Falls, Sauk Centre and Perham, Minn., and Milwaukee, Wis. Sister Doris was preceded in death by siblings Clarence, Roland, Marcella, Jerome, Bernice and Barbara Bermingham. Survivors include nieces, nephews and her Franciscan Community. Donations to Franciscan Sisters Ministries preferred.
