Sister Mary Joyce (Armella) Brandl, 84, died on February 23, 2007, at Fairview Southdale Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis Convent on Saturday, March 3, at 11 a.m. Friends may call at St. Francis Convent on Friday, March 2, from 4 - 8:30 p.m. and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Saturday. Arrangements are by the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service, Little Falls. A wake service will be held at the Convent at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 2. Sister Joyce was born on March 14, 1922, in Buckman, Minn. She was the fourth of six children born to Joseph and Rose (Janson) Brandl. She was accepted as a Franciscan Sister of Little Falls, Minnesota, on August 12, 1940. She made first profession on August 12, 1942, and final vows on August 12, 1945. She was a Franciscan Sister for 64 years. Sister Joyce ministered as director and instructor of dietetics, nutritionist, clinical consultant dietitian, director of health, home economics teacher, retreat and spiritual director. She served in Breckenridge, Brainerd and Little Falls, Minn.; Cudahy, Wis. and Tucson, Ariz. Sister Joyce was preceded in death by siblings: Erwin, Marion Lonsdale and Reverend Leo. Survivors include siblings: Bernard (Lois), Brainerd, and Doris O'Rourke, Portage, Wis.; sister-in-law Rose, Rochester; nieces, nephews and her Franciscan Community. Donations to Franciscan Sisters Ministries preferred.
