Rose A. Opatz, 97 year old resident of Little Falls formerly of Bowlus, MN, died Tuesday, April 19 at St. Ottos Care Center in Little Falls, MN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Bowlus, MN with Father John Odero officiating. The burial will be held in the parish cemetery. A visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 P.M. on Friday and from 9:30 to10:30 A.M. on Saturday at the church in Bowlus, MN. A Rosary Sodality will be said at 4:30 P.M. followed by the Parish Prayers at 7:00 P.M. on Friday evening at the church.
Rose Agnes (Klimek) Opatz was born on October 24, 1918 on the family farm in Two Rivers Township, Morrison County near Bowlus, MN. She was sixth child born to Christian (Christ) and Mary (Kupka) Klimek. Rose attended District #23 grade school through the eighth grade. Rose left the family farm at an early age and worked as a nanny for families in the Minneapolis and later in the Bowlus area. Rose married George Opatz on November 22, 1938 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in North Prairie, MN. Rose always had a beautiful yard, large garden and was a wonderful cook. She was well known for her homemade coffee cakes and cinnamon rolls. Rose was up at 4:00 A.M. starting the sweet dough. She was a major partner with her late husband George in the operation of the family farm where they raised their six children. Rose milked cows in the morning and in the evening, picked rocks, baled hay, raised chickens, always had fresh eggs for her family and friends, mowed lawn, while always making sure she had lipstick on. Rose also sewed all the clothes for herself and her children. Rose was a model several times for the local style shows for Lora Bs, she had a love for fashion. She enjoyed sunsets after a busy day on the family farm. The family worked hard and enjoyed a good party. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bowlus and the St. Stanislaus Alter Rosary Society for 50 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Raymond (Renee) Opatz of Sartell, MN, Richard Oscar Opatz of Little Falls, MN, Carol (Arnie) Molus of Bowlus, MN, Duane (Polly) Opatz of Bowlus, MN, Charlotte Char (John) Berns of Little Falls, MN; daughter-in-law, Sandy Opatz of Little Falls, MN. 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Mary Klimek; husband, George Opatz (October 20, 2010), son, Ronald Opatz (June 2, 2005), daughter-in-law, Marie Opatz (November 17, 2013), grandson, Thomas Opatz (June 6, 1996), great-grandson, Bradley Opatz (September 4, 2003 ), siblings, Albert Klimek, Mary Maciej. Joseph Klimek, Roman Klimek, Celia Banker, Regina Popp, Harry Klimek, Anne Bieniek and Theresa Bieniek.
The family of Rose Opatz would like to thank the staff and volunteers of St. Ottos Care Center for the wonderful care and compassion given to our mother during her stay with you.
