Roman J. Czech

Roman J. Czech, age 84, of Flensburg, MN, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg, MN, with Rev. Leo Moenkedick and Rev. Tony Kroll concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 -11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30th. Roman Jerome Czech was born on February 23, 1925 in Bowlus, MN to the late John & Victoria (Kroll) Czech. The family later moved to Flensburg where they farmed and he attended school. He worked for the railroad and stockyards before being inducted into the service during World War II in February of 1945. He served in Okinowa in the Basic Cavalry and Military Police. He received a sharp shooters medal, good conduct and overseas medals. After sixteen months, he was honorably discharged. In September 1950, he was united in marriage to Dolores Jendro at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Elmdale. He continued to farm and took great pride in his crops and livestock. Roman enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was a life member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg and the V.F.W. Post #1112 in Little Falls. In 1998, he underwent major heart surgery for a heart valve replacement. After 10 years, the valve collapsed and the only help was another surgery he was sure he couldn't go through. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Dolores of Flensburg; children, Diane Gast of Starbuck, MN, Florian (Linda) Czech of Big Lake, MN and Beverly (Dennis) Anderson of Browerville, MN; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Kuchinski of Little Falls and brother Alois (Lillian) Czech of Barling, Arkansas. Roman was preceded in death by his parents, John & Victoria (Kroll) Czech; son-in-law, Fred Gast; Sister Agnes Ringwelski and brothers, John, Tom, Edward, George, Vince, Frank and Leo Czech.
