Roger Alfred Schlichting, 72 year old resident of Rice, Minnesota died Friday, October 9 at Legends of Heritage in Sartell, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 12 at 11:00 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church in Rice, MN with Father Tom Becker officiating. The burial will be held in the parish cemetery in Rice, Minnesota. A visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 11 and from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service on Monday, October 12 all at Immaculate Conception Church in Rice, Minnesota. The parish prayers will be said at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday evening at the church.
Roger Alfred Schlichting was born December 13, 1942 in Royalton, MN to the late Alfred and Mary (Smieja) Schlichting. He graduated from Royalton High School with the class of 1960. He then attended St. Cloud Vocational School for plumbing and welding. He entered the United States Army on September 15, 1960 and served his country until January 13, 1962. Roger was united in marriage to Marian Lampert on April 30, 1966 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bowlus, MN. The couple made their home in Brockway Township, Stearns County. Roger worked for various plumbing contractors in St. Cloud and surrounding areas. He then went to work at St. Cloud VA as a plumber and welder and retired from the VA. Roger enjoyed fishing, hunting and vacationing at various lakes. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Rice, MN, where he ushered for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Rice American Legion.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marian Schlichting of Rice, MN; children, Steven (Shelley) Schlichting of St. Stephen, MN, Thomas (Carrie) Schlichting of Rice, MN, Janet Schlichting of Rice, MN, Curtis Schlichting of Rice, MN and Gwen (Trinity) Opp of Alexandria, MN; siblings, Raymond Schlichting of Rice, MN, Rita (Jerry) Fasen of Sartell, MN, Marlys Wells of Washburn, WI; 9 grandchildren, Nicoli, Alex, Brody, Brittney, Austin, Josiah, Grace, Noah and Luke and 1 great-grandchild, Emmah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mary Schlichting; sister, Irene Burggraff and sister-in-law, Marlys Schlichting.
Casket Bearers will be: Nicoli Leko, Alex Schlichting, Brody Schlichting, Brittney Schlichting, Austin Schlichting, Dan Schlichting.
