Rodney James Tiemann, 88, of Royalton, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024, at Good Shepherd Cottages, surrounded by family.
He was born on October 9, 1935, in Little Falls to Henry and Mary(Sauer)Tiemann. Rod completed his education through the eighth grade and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1964.
On September 29, 1962, he married Margo Sundstrom, and together they raised four children: Renee (Steve) Hanson, Jeff (Cindy) Tiemann, Patrick (Joan) Tiemann, and Bill (Julie) Tiemann. Rodney took great pride in his family, especially his 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a constant source of joy and fulfillment.
After dedicating 20 years to Smeija Implement in Royalton, Rodney embraced a new chapter in his life as a full-time farmer. He worked tirelessly on the family farm east of Royalton where he committed his life to the land and his family. Rod proudly served on the Royalton Fire Department for 26 years, including several years as Fire Chief. He was known for his no-nonsense approach and unwavering commitment to his loved ones and community.
In his later years, Rodney found joy in “supervising” activities on the farm, visiting with friends in his gazebo, tackling tractor restoration projects in his workshop, nurturing his garden and apple orchard and driving the “pope” mobile on the farm with his beloved dog Bear. Having a stroke three months before his passing left him unable to do the things he loved and despite undergoing extensive rehabilitation at St. Cloud Hospital and Legacy Place in Sauk Rapids, his health steadily declined. Rodney spent his final days at Good Shepherd Cottages in Sauk Rapids, where he received compassionate care from his family, the cottages staff, and St. Croix Hospice.
Rod was proceeded in death by his Parents, Siblings-John(AnnaMae), Dorothy(Phil) Sjoberg, Louise(Ken) Arnold, and Hank(Audrey) and Paul.
Visitation will be held at The BackShed in Royalton on Sunday, October 6 from 1-4 p.m._. A private service for the family will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery at a later date. In place of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Rod’s honor to the Royalton Fire Department or The Good Shepherd Foundation of Sauk Rapids.
