Robert D. Galbraith, age 87, of St. Cloud, MN, formerly of Little Falls, MN passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2006 at First United Church in Little Falls, MN with Rev. John Longley officiating. Burial will be at the MN State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2006 at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service East Chapel in Little Falls, Minnesota. Visitation will also be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #46 of Little Falls. Robert was born on July 18, 1919 in Becker, MN to George & Myrtle (Speicherman) Galbraith. He was united in marriage to Winnifred S. Abitz on May 15, 1946 in St. Cloud, MN. He entered his military training at Fort Snelling as a young cadet that was called CMT (Civilian Military Training). Then when the economy changed he went several years in the CCC in Minnesota. Some years later the 217th Coast Guard Artillery Regiment (the St. Cloud area Guard Unit) left St. Cloud for Camp Haan in California. On December 7, 1941 they were federalized and were sent to different assignments. Most of his last 5 years he was placed in the medics. He attended the St. Cloud Teachers College and taught at a country school for 1 year. After teaching for some years he got Jr. High endorsement. He also enjoyed being a social worker in the St. Cloud area and in Arizona in 1955. After teaching he got his Masters Degree and continued his work as Elementary Principal until retiring in 1981. He was recognized for many awards during his 30 years. After the war he attended St. Cloud University and enjoyed being a part of school administration. Robert is survived by his spouse: Winnifred Galbraith, of St. Cloud, MN; son: John (Martha "Marti") Galbraith of Sartell, MN; daughter: Wendy (Reynold) Dahl of Whitinsville, MA; seven grandchildren and sister, Doris Struck of Medford, OR. He was preceded in death by his Parents, George & Myrtle (Speicherman) Galbraith and brother, Morris Johnson.
