Robert "Bob" A. Brastad, 89, of Little Falls, MN, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011, at St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN, with Rev. Nicholas Landsberger officiating. Interment with military honors by the Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112 will be in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Monday, January 31st and 9:30 - 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 1st all at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls. There will be a parish prayer service at 5:30 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Robert "Bob" A. Brastad was born on June 16, 1921 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Carl & Mabel (Mattson) Brastad. He enlisted in the United States Army on October 19, 1942 and served during WW II. He received a Purple Heart as the result of being wounded in New Caledonia. Bob was honorably discharged on November 11, 1943. Bob was united in marriage to Hildegarde "Hilde" Eidenschink on May 15, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN. The couple lived in a number of small towns in Morrison County before settling in Little Falls. Bob worked at Camp Ripley as a surveyor and security police retiring in 1985. Bob enjoyed collecting model cars, walking, spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling, coffee time and visiting with his friends around town. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Falls and the Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Hilde of Little Falls, MN; children, Jeff (Kathy) Brastad of Maplewood, MN, Robert (Jeanne) Brastad of Little Falls, MN, Randy (Gloria) Brastad of St. Cloud, MN and Thomas (fiance, Tina) Brastad of Anoka, MN; siblings, Kenneth Brastad, Donald Brastad and Myrtle "Diddie" Hines all of Little Falls, MN; grandchildren, Kale, Jodi, Brandon, Justin, Brittany, Ashley, Kristin, and Cherilyn and great-grandchildren, Tucker, Owen, Micah, Koda, Tristan and Brooklynn. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Carl & Mabel (Mattson) Brastad; son, Clay Brastad (1986); sister, Viola "Hap" Kick (2007).
