Richard "Rich" Weigel Richard "Rich" Weigel, 83 year old resident of Little Falls, MN, passed away Sunday, June 13 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 17 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN with Rev. Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, MN at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service and from 9:00-10:00 A.M. on Thursday at the church in Little Falls, MN. Parish Prayers will be said at 6:30 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted by the Little Falls American Legion Post #46. Richard was born February 22, 1927 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to the late Anton and Elizabeth (Harley) Weigel. He grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen High School with the class of 1945. Rich enlisted in the United States Navy on February 19, 1945 and was honorably discharged on October 3, 1946. Following his discharge from the Navy, he attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He later transferred to St. Cloud State University where he received his degree in education. Rich continued his education at St. Cloud State receiving his Master's Degree in Education. Rich was united in marriage to Phyllis Stiegel on July 24, 1951 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Little Falls. The couple lived in Delavan, MN for three years. The couple moved to Little Falls, MN where Rich taught social studies and physical education at the middle school in Little Falls, MN. He was very active with boys' athletics in Little Falls, MN, coaching golf and football. He retired from teaching in 1987, but continued his involvement with Flyer athletics. Rich enjoyed baseball, playing with the Little Falls Red Sox. Rich was a pitcher in the Brooklyn Dodgers Professional Baseball farm system. He was an avid golfer. Rich was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Little Falls American Legion Post #46. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Phyllis Weigel of Little Falls, MN; children, Steven Weigel and wife, Kate, of Orland Park, IL, Judy Corradi of Maple Grove, MN and Bill Weigel and wife, Jana, of Lindenhurst, IL; siblings, Tony Weigel of Omaha, NE, Rita Nevill and husband, Don, Aberdeen, SD, Jim Weigel of Billings, MT; grandchildren, Anthony Weigel, Andrew Weigel, Elizabeth Weigel, Lindsay Weigel, Andrea Corradi and Haley Corradi. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ray Weigel, John Weigel and Eugene Weigel.
