Richard Gwost

March 22, 1930 — December 28, 2010

Richard Henry Gwost, 80 year old resident of Flensburg, MN died Tuesday, December 28 at his home in Flensburg, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 3 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg, MN with Rev. Leo Moenkedick officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 P.M. on Monday at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, MN. Friends may call from 8:30-10:00 A.M. on Monday at the Church in Flensburg. Military Honors will be conducted by the Flensburg American Legion and the Randall VFW. Richard H. Gwost was born Richard H. Gwosdz on March 22, 1930 in Sobieski, MN to the late Frank Gwosdz and Barbara (Janey) Gwosdz. Richard enlisted in the United States Navy on April 3, 1952 at Great Lakes, IL. During his military duty, Richard received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal (Europe). He was honorably discharged on March 22, 1956 in California. He returned to Morrison County, Minnesota where he worked for Western Electric in Minneapolis, MN, until retiring in 1972. After his retirement, Richard farmed in Morrison County just north of Flensburg, MN. Richard enjoyed farming, tractors and old-time music. He played percussion for a number of old-time bands in the area. Richard was very dedicated and active with the Flensburg American Legion and the Randall VFW. Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Gary (Diane) Gwost of Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law, Caroline Gwost of Flensburg, MN; nieces, Debbie (Roger) Witucki of Little Falls, MN; Jean Gwost of Swanville, MN; nephew, John Gwost (Margurite Cofell) of Flensburg, MN; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jeremiah Witucki, Melissa Haggerty, Jordan Witucki, Shannon Gwost, Nicole Gwost, Casey Gwost, Wyatt Gwost, Ashley Gwost. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Barbara Gwost; brothers, Jerome and Harold Gwost; nephew, Wayne Gwost. Casket Bearers: will be the Flensburg American Legion In Lieu of Flowers Memorials Preferred.
