Raymond "Ray" Banick, 90 year old resident of Little Falls passed away on Thursday, July 25 at the Little Falls Care Center in Little Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 30 at 11:30 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father David Maciej. A visitation will be held from 8:30 A.M. until the hour of the service on Tuesday at the church. The burial will be held in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Holy Family Catholic Church Cemetery Fund or CHI Hospice.
Raymond Richard Banick was born on July 21, 1934 in Harding, Minnesota to the late Frank and Florence (Mulchay) Banick. He attended school until the eighth grade in Harding. Ray helped his family on the farm for several years. Ray was united in marriage to Dorothy Valeria Matlock on June 30, 1955 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding, MN. The couple made their home in Little Falls and were blessed with five children, Richard, Daniel, Marie, Tom and Janelle. Ray worked for Crestliner Boats in Little Falls from 1954 until 1981. Ray also owned and operated Ray's Boat Repair from 1981 until 2000. He was the custodian for Holy Family Catholic Church from 1981 until 2011. Ray was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church since 1957, where he volunteered countless hours. He also volunteered at the St. Francis Convent for several years. Ray enjoyed walking, fishing, playing with the grandkids, going to the casino, visiting with family and friends, being outside and feeding the birds. Ray will be loved and missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Banick of Little Falls; children, Daniel Banick of Little Falls, Marie (Kevin) Festler of Park Rapids, Janelle (Tim) Rieland of Watkins and Tom (Laura) Banick of Royalton; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and a brother, Duane Banick of Little Falls.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Banick; granddaughter, Jessi Banick; siblings, Frank Banick, Jr, Jerry Banick, Rita Scepurek and his parents, Frank and Florence Banick.
The family would like to thank the Little Falls Care Center and the CHI Hospice Staff for the wonderful care they provided Ray and his family for the last seven months.
