Philip V. Mayer, age 83, of Lastrup, MN, passed away at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at 1:45 P.M. Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Please gather at Assembly Lane 2 by 1:35 P.M. Philip Victor Mayer was born on January 4, 1927, in McClusky, North Dakota the son of Philip & Katie (Heydt) Mayer. He grew up in Drake, North Dakota. He enlisted in the United States Navy on March 8, 1944 and served during World War II until his honorable discharge on June 11, 1946. He re-enlisted on May 14, 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge on May 22, 1954. Following his military service, he worked for the Railroad. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Hahn on October 2, 1956. The couple made their home in Page, North Dakota before moving to Randall, MN. The couple moved to California where they owned a restaurant in Long Beach. The couple later returned to Randall, MN. Philip was employed in the Twin Cities and also farmed in the Randall area. The couple eventually retired and continued living in the Randall area. Geraldine passed away in 1993 and Philip continued living in the Randall area until 2003 when he moved to Lastrup, MN. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, making sausage and listening to old time music. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Gary Mayer of Randall, MN, Cindy (Jeff) Bartle of Motley, MN, Tom Mayer of Cushing, MN; sister, Arlene Suckert of Clearwater, MN; grandchildren, Amanda (Tomas) Zimmerman, Rick (Aja) Mayer, Cody Mayer, Alexis Mayer; step-grandchildren, Angie (Steve) Magee, Allison Bartle; great-grandchildren, Caleb Zimmerman, Carter Mayer, Tanner Magee, Macall Magee; brother-in-law, John Forester of Spokane, WA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; parents, Philip & Katie (Heydt) Mayer; sister, Carolyn Forester. Casket bearers will be Gary Mayer, Tom Mayer, Jeff Bartle, Rick Mayer and Cody Mayer.
