Paul Grey

Paul Grey, 80 year old resident of Randall, MN. died Thursday, December 4, 2008 at his home in Randall. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 19, 2008 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cushing, MN with Pastor Heather Culuris officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 P.M. Friday, December 19th at Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Military honors will be conducted by the Randall VFW Post #9073. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday, December 19th at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Cushing, MN. Paul Maynard Grey was born May 28, 1928 in Sunrise, MN to the late Arthur and Ruth (Warner) Grey. He grew up and attended school there. Paul enlisted in the United States Navy on January 21, 1946 and was honorably discharged on November 18, 1947. He then served four years in the Naval Reserve. His many occupations included bridge building, local and over the road truck driving, owning a business, and security officer. Paul worked for the Spring Lake Park Police Department for 12 years, advancing to the position of Chief of Police. He was also a member of the Anoka County Water Rescue at that time. Paul ended his career by retiring from Starkey Electronics after working there for 20 years. Paul was married to Sophie (Hanke) Grey from December 16, 1972 until her death on June 6, 2004. They moved to the Randall, MN area in 1989. They were members of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cushing, MN. He originally joined the Kraus-Hartig VFW Post #6587 of Spring Lake Park, MN, where he served as a Post Commander. After moving to Randall, he transferred his lifetime membership to the Randall VFW Post #9073. His many hobbies included camping, fishing, locksmith work, acquiring his private pilot's license, and wood working. His latest project was making clocks, which he shared by giving them away. He was united in marriage to JoAnn (Olson) Grey on April 15, 2007. Paul is survived by his wife, JoAnn Grey of Randall, MN; children, Wanda (Gary) Hansen of Coon Rapids, MN, Bonnie (Patrick) Tourville of Mounds View, MN and Robert (Chong ae) Grey of Cheyenne, WY; brother and sisters, Adeline, Ethel, Beth, Laurel, Alice and Wayne; step-children, Jim Marshik and special friend, Michelle, of Flensburg, MN, Darlene (John) Preimesberger of Pierz, MN, Linda Marshik of Anoka, MN, Bob (Amy) Marshik of Foley, MN, Dennis Marshik of Foley, MN and Lisa (Jason) Walcheski of Foley, MN; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ruth (Warner) Grey; brother, Merril Grey; wife, Sophie Grey; step-son, Randy Hanke; step-daughter, Mary Marshik and great-grandchild, Matthew Foner.
