Mayme Harstad, 93 year old resident of Little Falls, passed away at St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 26 at 11:30 AM at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls with Rev. Beth Pottratz officiating. The burial will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 25 at Emblom Brenny Funeral Service from 2:00-5:00 P.M. and from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service on Monday at the church.

Mayme Irene Hoyhtya was born on October 30, 1930 in Spruce Grove Township near Menahga, MN to the late John and Hilja (Tanney) Hoyhtya. She graduated from Frazee High School with the Class of 1948. Mayme was united in marriage to Maurice Harstad on October 18, 1953 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Menahga, MN. The couple made their home in Sebeka, where they farmed for a few years before moving to Little Falls in 1965. Mayme was a homemaker and more importantly a mother to Carol, Diane, Judy, Linda and Denise. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, canning her famous, “Dill Pickles”, her delicious hot dishes, crocheting, watching the Minnesota Twins, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and trips to the casino. Mayme loved spending time with her family and treasured her time with the grandchildren and meeting her great-grandchildren. She was a member of the DAV Auxiliary and First Lutheran Church. Mayme will be forever loved by her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Carol Harstad of Little Falls, Diane (Tom) Smith of Faribault, Judy (Mark) Berger of Little Falls, Linda (Carlos) Stroia of Little Falls and Denise Harstad of Little Falls; sisters, Sylvia Luedke of Perham, Ruth (Don) Toppari of Menahga, Millie (Ron) Burkman of Ann Arbor, MI; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Glenice (Vern) Lutz of Plainfield, IL and Carol Hoyhtya of Hopkins; grandchildren, Darren Berger of St. Paul, Kelly Berger of Austin, TX, Brent Berger (fiancé, Alyssa Bergland) of Burnsville, Blake Stroia of Little Falls, Anna (Fausto) Rodela of Faribault, Mary Smith of Las Vegas, NV, Evan Smith and Shane Smith of Faribault, Luke Smith of Mankato and Gabriel Smith (fiancé, Samantha Johnson) of Waseca; great-grandchildren, Briar, Archer and Benjamin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maurice Harstad in 2005; infant son, Larry Harstad, grandson, Antonio Stroia; brothers, Walter (Joyce) Hoyhtya, Abner Hoyhtya, Elmer Hoyhtya, Allen (Evelyn) Hoyhtya, Arnold Hoyhtya, Wilbert (Shirley) Hoyhtya; sister, Marie (Irving) Jokela; infant sister, Millie Hoyhtya; brother-in-law, LeRoy Luedke; sisters-in-law, Myrtle (Pierce) Rawling, Millie (Glenn) Muggleberg, Clarice (Russell) Ruud and a brother-in-law, Lester Harstad.
