Maurice Davis, 96 year old resident of Little Falls formerly of Hackensack, MN and St. Joseph, MO, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2008 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, MN. The funeral service and burial will be held at a later date in Hamilton, MO. Maurice Davis was born December 23, 1911 in Laverne, IA to George and Carrie (Biegger) Davis. He graduated from Livermore Iowa High School. As a young man he was an accomplished athlete and participated in basketball, baseball and football. Maurice attended Creighton University on a football scholarship. He went to St. Joseph, MO where he met and married his wife Dorothy. Maurice was self employed as a trucker and returned to Livermore, IA where he worked in construction and later started his career as a meat cutter. They moved to California for several years, returning to St. Joseph, Missouri on the death of his father. He continued as a meat cutter in St. Joseph and retired when he was 75 years old. Following the death of his wife, Dorothy, he moved to the Walker/Hackensack area of Minnesota. Maurice joined a group of volunteers at the Aw-Gwa-Ching Nursing Home where he met his second wife, Bea, who was also a volunteer. They married in 1991. Following Bea's death, Maurice moved to the Little Falls area. Maurice was a voracious reader, preferring Western novels and would read five to ten novels on a weekly basis. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed dinner parties and listening to music. Maurice loved to travel and he will be greatly missed by his family. Maurice is survived by his three sons, William (Lonnie) Davis of Randall, MN, George (Lucille) Davis of Fuquay Varina, NC and Michael (Cheryl) Davis of Rancho Margarita, CA; two nephews; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 65 years, Dorothy and second wife of 10 years, Bea; parents, George and Carrie Davis; an infant daughter and his brother, Graemer Davis.
