Mathilda "Mattie" Wimmer

Mathilda Mattie Wimmer, age 84, of Brainerd, MN, formerly of Pierz, MN, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Bethany Good Samaritan Society in Brainerd.



Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 8 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Pierz, MN, with Fr. Kenneth Popp officiating. Interment will be in St. John Nepomuk Catholic Cemetery in Lastrup, MN.



Visitation will be held from 4:00 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 7 and 9:30 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday all at Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.



Mathilda Mattie Gold was born on April 27, 1931, in Hillman, Minnesota to the late Karl and Clara (Leidenfrost) Gold. She spent her childhood and teen years in Vienna, Austria during World War II. She and her younger sisters, Bobby and Helly moved back to the Lastrup/Pierz area after the war to live with their Liedenfrost relatives and joined their brother George. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Wimmer on April 27, 1953, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN. They farmed with his brother, George on the family home stead where the couple began their 59 years of married life. In 1962, they purchased a farm one and half miles northeast of Pierz and started their own dairy farm. Mattie and Lawrence were blessed with six children, Donna, Kathy, Suzann, Joseph, Joanie, and Michael. She was an avid reader, gardener, seamstress and also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, flower gardens, water color painting and swimming in the river. Her time spent with her children and grandchildren were treasured moments.



Left to cherish her memory are her children, Donna (Rod) Ziemer of Leavenworth, KS, Kathy (Gary) Engelmann of Baxter, MN, Joe (Bernice) Wimmer of Alexandria, MN, Joanie (Tim Brengman) Gold of Shorewood, MN, and Michael Wimmer of Centennial, CO; grandchildren, Rita Ann, Rodney and Suzanne Ziemer, Alexandra, Nate and Jace Engelmann, Michael and Raquel Roschen Wimmer, Neysia, Karl, Josie and John Wimmer, Halle and Cole Jaksa, Lindsey, Brett and Chase Wimmer; great grandchildren, Thane and Everly Ziemer; step-great-grandchildren, Cathryn and Robyn and her sister, Barbara Nelson of Apple Valley, MN.



Mattie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence Wimmer (Sept. 30, 2012); beloved daughter, Suzann; infant twin boys; siblings, Donna Gold, George Gold, Karl Gold and Helen Zeece.
