Louise M. Thommes

Louise M. Thommes, age 97, of Lastrup, MN, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Mille Lacks Health System Hospital in Onamia, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 14, 2011 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN, with Fr. David Maciej and Fr. Bernard Kahlhammer con-celebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz, MN, with a Christian Mother's Rosary at 4:00 P.M. and Parish Prayers service at 6:00 P.M. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service. Louise was born Louise Marie Zak on September 15, 1913 in Pulaski Township, Morrison County, Minnesota the daughter of Walter & Anne (Schubert) Zak. She grew up at Camp Thorofare on Platte Lake. She attended country school through the eighth grade. For many years she played in the Zak Concertina Band. She was united in marriage to Andrew Thommes on October 30, 1934 at Holy Family Catholic Church at Bull Dog Lake. The couple made their home in Lastrup where Louise lived the rest of her life. Louise was primarily a wife and mother. She grew a large garden each year and canned her produce, she enjoyed harvesting wild rice and she also enjoyed playing her concertina up to the time she died. She especially enjoyed entertaining her family at her home. Louise was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup and the Christian Women. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Gerald (Jaunita) Thommes of Tucson, AZ, Kenneth (Sindy Seppelt) Thommes of Hillman, MN and Audrey (Dave Guinn) Burt of Lakeland, FL; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Thommes (Nov. 6, 1992); daughter, Shirley Ann Taylor; (Feb. 2, 2002); grandson, Douglas Conklin (July, 2010); parents, Walter & Anne (Schubert) Zak; siblings, Bertha (Wendelin) Kahlhammer, Peter (Katie) Zak, Leo (Louise) Zak, Al (Christine) Zak and Josephine (Clarence) Kainz.
