LeRoy "Roy" E. Moore, age 79 of Cushing, MN, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the St. Cloud V.A. Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Camp Ripley Chapel (within the gates of Camp Ripley) with Rev. Nick Landsberger officiating. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, north of Little Falls. Friends may call from 9:00-11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Camp Ripley Chapel. Military rites will be conducted by Little Falls American Legion Post #46 and Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112. LeRoy "Roy" E. Moore was born April 20, 1930 in Meire Grove, Stearns County, MN to the late Earl & Appolonia (Meyer) Moore. His family moved to Sauk Centre, MN where he attended and graduated from Sauk Centre High School with the Class of 1948. Following high school, Roy worked in North Dakota and South Dakota on powerline construction for Determan Construction Company of Sauk Centre, MN and later Arvig Construction out of Wadena, MN. He entered the National Guard and later the United States Army on October 1, 1951. He received an Honorable Discharge from Camp Carson, CO on October 2, 1952. During his time in the military, Roy served with the Btry 65th AAA BN APO 331 in motor vehicle dispatch. In 1955, he was united in marriage to Joan Super. Upon returning from the military, he attended North Dakota State University in Grand Forks, ND, graduating in 1959 with a degree in Pharmacy and had licensure in both North and South Dakota. He worked in Grand Forks as a pharmacist. In 1960, Roy moved to Brainerd, MN and then to Little Falls, working as a pharmacist and as general manager for Thrifty Drug. In 1986, Roy was named Thrifty Drug Manager of the Year. When Roy retired from Thrifty as store manager, he continued to serve on the Board of Directors for Thrifty Drug until 2001, when he retired from the board. In October of 1991, Roy was united to Margaret McLain. Roy and Margaret have made their home on Lake Alex near Cushing, where he resided until his death. Roy enjoyed nature and watching birds, especially the eagles, RV camping, music, reading, being around people, singing "Happy Birthday" to family and friends and in earlier years, working on his Model "A" Car. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Falls where he was on the parish council, served on the St. Francis High School Board,Community Development Board, was a life member of the Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112, Little Falls American Legion Post #46 and the DAV, Little Falls Chamber of Commerce serving as President in 1974, Little Falls Kiwanis, North Central Economic Development Association, Little Falls Planning Commission, board member of the Lake Alex Association and a life member of the Minnesota Pharmaceutical Association. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Margaret; daughters & sons, Cynthia Moore of Tecumseh, MI, Debra (Mark) Kummer of Pensacola, FL, Rebecca (David) Nelson of Randall, MN, Stephen Moore and Deb Peterson of Prior Lake, MN; Susan Moore and Doug Winn of St. Paul, MN and Michael Moore, of St. Paul, MN; brother, Donald (Idellah) Moore of Avon, MN; sister, Marie (Larry) Larson of Granite City, CA; grandchildren, Joseph (Annie) Nelson, Tony Nelson, Emma (Donald) Turrentine, Anna (Chris) Nunez and Elizabeth Kummer and five great-grandchildren. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Appolonia Moore, and brothers, Ray & Tony Moore and a sister, Lillian Jones. Memorials preferred to St. Cloud V.A. Medical Center or Parkinson's Research Mayo Clinic.
