Leonard F. Pohlkamp

Leonard F. Pohlkamp, age 90, of Pierz, MN, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Pierz Villa in Pierz, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 14, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic in Pierz, MN, with Rev. Gerald Dalseth officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors provided by the Pierz American Legion Post #341 and the Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 13th and 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 14th at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz, MN. Prayer services Friday evening at the wake include a Rosary at 4:30 P.M., American Legion Service at 5:30 P.M., Parish Prayer Service at 6:30 P.M. and Knights of Columbus Office of the Dead at 7:00 P.M. Leonard Pohlkamp was born on December 2, 1918 in Buckman, MN to the late Frank & Catherine (Suess) Pohlkamp. He grew up in the Buckman area where he attended school. He enlisted in the United States Army on March 19, 1942 and was honorably discharged on December 18, 1945. Following the service, he began The Farmers Mill which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1980. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Grittner on April 3, 1948 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Buckman. The couple lived all their married life in the Pierz area. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Pierz Knights of Columbus, Pierz American Legion Post #341 and Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112. Leonard enjoyed playing baseball and softball, bowling, ice fishing, playing cards and following the Minnesota Twins. Leonard will be remembered by his family as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and father-in-law. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Lorraine Pohlkamp of Pierz; children, Mary Ann (Jerry) Fischer of Pierz, J.R. (Geri) Pohlkamp of Lastrup, John (Eileen) Pohlkamp of Pierz, Jerry (Judy) Pohlkamp of Sartell, Marlys (Tony) Kummet of Lastrup, Jeff (Linda) Pohlkamp of Lastrup, Diane (Bob) Winter of Sauk Rapids, Ken Pohlkamp of Pierz, Denise (Leonard) Zika of Sartell and Mark (Sheila) Pohlkamp of New Hope; 23 grandchildren, Jamie, Shawn, Bob, Julie, Jenni, Mike, Stacie, Jason, Johnny, Kayla, Robyn, Carrie, Suzy, Ang, Nicki, Amber, Greg, Tina, Shanna, Danielle, Alexis, Zach and Devon; 14 great-grandchildren, Ellie, Kirby, Tyler, Rylee, Olivia, Matt, Morgan, Garrett, Tiara, BreAnna, Johnny, Rylan, Kole and Mataya and sister, Anna (Joe) Gangl of Buckman. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Catherine (Suess) Pohlkamp; brothers and sisters, Ted Pohlkamp, Andrew Pohlkamp, Erwin Pohlkamp, Marie Gmach and Catherine Kapsner.
