Leander "Lee" J. Meyer, age 91 of Pierz, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, Minnesota. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz with Rev. Gerald Dalseth officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 - 10:00 A.M. at the Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz. Parish Prayers will be said at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral chapel followed by the Knights of Columbus Office for the Dead at 7:00 P.M. Leander "Lee" Meyer was born April 19, 1920 in Morrison County, Minnesota. He grew up in Pierz, Minnesota, where he lived most of his life. He attended and graduated from St. Joseph's School in Pierz. Lee entered the United States Army on April 7, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota and received an Honorable Discharge on November 2, 1945 at MacDill Field, Florida. During his military stay, Lee received the Good Conduct Medal and one Service Stripe. He was united in marriage to Helen Loidolt on May 1, 1943 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mayhew Lake, MN. After his military service, Lee and Helen lived in Stockton, California for a few years and then returned to Minnesota where he owned and operated Meyer's Dairy. Lee moved to the Brainerd, Minnesota area for two years. He then returned to Pierz where he owned and operated the Surge Dairy Farm Dealership from 1967 until his retirement. Lee served on the Pierz City Council and also as Mayor of Pierz. Lee enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, the Pierz American Legion Post, the Knights of Columbus, Pierz Lions and a former member of the Pierz Volunteer Fire Department. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Barbara (James) Varani of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Patricia (Gregory) Tschida of St. Cloud, Minnesota and Elizabeth (Dean) Theisen of Golden Valley, Minnesota; son-in-law, Donald Prose of Milltown, Wisconsin; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, on September 8, 2004; daughter, Margaret Prose in 2001; brothers, Wilfred Meyer, Jerome Meyer and Oswin Meyer; sisters, Rosemary Meyer, Elaine Meyer and Irene Ophven. Casket Bearers are Mick Tschida, Kelly Dooley, Kathryn Tschida, Aaron Varani, Andrew Varani, Sam Theisen, Jacob Theisen, John Theisen and Ellen Prose.
