Lawrence Wimmer

Lawrence Wimmer, age 83, of Brainerd, formerly of Pierz, MN passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Bethany Good Samaritan Society in Brainerd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 5th, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Pierz MN with Father Ken Popp officiating. Friends may gather from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 4 at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz, MN and from 9:00-10:00 A.M. on Friday at the funeral home. The parish prayers will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. Lawrence was born on June 25, 1929 on the family farm in Buckman Township, Morrison County to the late George and Martha (Grittner) Wimmer. He was the fourth of seven children. Lawrence attended and graduated from Royalton High School. He was united in marriage to Mathilda "Mattie" Gold on April 27, 1953 at St. John's Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, Minnesota. They began their 59 years of married life on the homestead dairy farm in partnership with his brother George Jr. In 1962, they purchased a farm one and half miles north east of Pierz, MN and started their own dairy farm. Lawrence and Mathilda were blessed with six children, Donna, Kathy, Suzann, Joseph, Joanie and Michael. In addition to farming, Lawrence was a longtime Dekalb Seed Dealer and in later years sold Belarus Tractors and Parts. Lawrence was an avid hunter and fisherman recounting these adventures was one of his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed politics and for many years was an active member of the Morrison County DFL and local farm organization. "Debating" politics was another favorite past time. Lawrence also enjoyed harvesting his various fruits. If there is such a title as "Master Wild Blueberry Picker" he has one. Once he retired from tilling the fields he turned to the gardens and his orchard. Many have reaped the benefits of his apples, strawberries and raspberries. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mathilda "Mattie"; children, Donna (Rod) Ziemer of Leavenworth, KS, Kathy (Gary) Engelmann of Brainerd, MN, Joe (Bernice) Wimmer of Alexandria, MN, Joanie Gold of Shorewood, MN and Michael Wimmer of Centennial, CO; grandchildren, Rita Ann, Rodney and Suzanne Ziemer, Alexandra, Nate and Jace Engelmann, Michael and Raquel Roschen Wimmer, Neysia, Karl, Josie and John Wimmer, Halle and Cole Jaksa, Lindsey, Brett and Chase Wimmer; great-grandchildren, Thane and Everly Ziemer; step-great-grandchildren, Catheryn and Robyn. Lawrence is preceded in death by his, parents; beloved daughter, Suzann; infant twin boys; two infant siblings; three brothers.
