Lawrence Sobiech, age 90 of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Sobieski, MN & Swanville, MN passed away Friday, January 30, 2009 at St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski. Visitation will be held Monday, February 2, 2009 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. and Tuesday from 8:00-10:00 A.M. at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service (Southeast Chapel) in Little Falls. Christian Mother's Rosary will be said at 4:30 P.M. Monday afternoon at the funeral chapel followed by Parish Prayers at 5:00 P.M. Lawrence Leonard Sobiech was born October 25, 1918 in Swanville Township, Morrison County, MN to the late Simon and Mary (Schneider) Sobiech. He attended school in Sobieski and Little Falls. Lawrence was united in marriage to Verle L. Schrupp on November 5, 1940 at Sacred Heart Church in Little Falls, MN. Following their marriage, Lawrence and Verle lived and farmed in Swanville Township, Morrison County, MN. Lawrence also worked as a musician and at Larson Boats in Little Falls. In August of 1998, the couple moved to Little Falls where he resided until his death. Since the age of 15 years, Lawrence played saxophone with The Night Owl Band, The Jolly Fishermen, The Minnesota Dutchmen, The Starlights and many other local bands. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, Bingo, going to the casino, bowling, baseball and watching the Minnesota Twins. He especially loved his animals and his land. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, where he served mass, a member of The Musicians Union, the Swanville & Little Falls Senior Citizens, volunteered at St. Otto's Care Center and served as an election judge at Swanville. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Verle, of Little Falls, MN; sons & daughters, Ronald (Barbara) Sobiech of Maple Grove, MN, Robert Sobiech of Little Falls, MN, Roger (Michele) Sobiech of Bella Vista, AR, Charles (Deborah) Sobiech of Swanville, MN, Janice (Victor) Schlangen of Avon, MN & Mary Guggemos & significant other, Larry Smiley, of Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren, Todd Sobiech, Scott Sobiech, Kevin Sobiech, Denise Dempsey, Kim Sobiech, Billi Jo Waltman, John Sobiech, Hannah Sobiech, Mark Schlangen, Amy Smith, Jake Schlangen, Mike Sobiech, Joe Sobiech & Steve Sobiech and sixteen Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant brother and brothers, John, Sam & Leo Sobiech; sisters, Martha Ososki, Anna Palashewski, Stella Kuka and a great-granddaughter, Madison Sobiech.
