Josephine Kainz, 95 year old resident of Harding, MN died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding, with Fr. David Maciej and Fr. Bernard Kahlhammer concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding, MN. There will be a Parish Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Josephine was born on February 28, 1915 in Pulaski Township, Morrison County, Minnesota to Walter & Anne (Schubert) Zak. She attended country school through the eighth grade near Platte Lake. At the age of 50, she received her G.E.D. As a young lady she was involved with the family orchestra playing for dances. She was united in marriage to Clarence Kainz on September 18, 1935 in Minneapolis. The couple moved to their farm north of Harding where Josephine still resided at the time of her death. Along with being a homemaker and farm wife, she picked wild rice, painted buildings (inside and out), worked at a turkey farm and enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling. She was a member of the Rosary Sodality and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding where she sang in the choir. Left to cherish her memory are her children, JoAnne (Leonard) Carlson of Diamondhead, MS, Don (Rita) Kainz of Little Rock Lake, MN, and daughter-in-law, Susan Kainz of Cottage Grove, MN; sister, Louise Thommes of Lastrup, MN; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Louise Zak of Pierz. Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence Kainz (March 26, 1998); son, Clarence "Buz" Kainz (May 26, 1999); siblings, Bertha (Wendelin) Kahlhammer, Peter (Katie) Zak, Leo Zak, Al (Christine) Zak and brother-in-law, Andrew Thommes. In lieu of flowers, memorial preferred to St. Clare's Monastery, Franciscan Sisters or St. Benedict's Monastery.
