Joseph B. Gangl, age 86 of Buckman, MN, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009, at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 Noon Thursday, May 21, 2009 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Buckman, MN, with Rev. Kenneth Brenny officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 20th and one hour prior to the service all at the church. There will be a Christian Mother's & St. Michael's Catholic Aid Association Rosary at 4:30 P.M., Parish Prayer service at 6:30 P.M. and Knights of Columbus Office of the Dead at 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church. Joseph B. Gangl was born on September 18, 1922 in Buckman Township, Morrison County, Minnesota to the late Frank & Theresa (Kohlenberger) Gangl. He grew up on a farm and attended country school District #99. He was united in marriage to Anna Pohlkamp on October 5, 1946 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Buckman. The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Buckman where they raised their 12 children. Joseph farmed until his retirement in 1985. During his working years, he also worked at the Farmers Mill and the lumber yard in Pierz. In his retirement years, he served as the president of the Gilman Senior Citizens for 20 years. His pastimes and hobbies included fishing, dancing, playing cards and dominos, bowling, playing softball, and traveling. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Buckman, St. Michael's Catholic Aid Society, the Knights of Columbus and the Gilman Senior Citizens. Joseph was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Anna Gangl of Buckman; children, JoAnn (Edward) Hendrickson of Cushing, Mary Kay (Richard) Zilka of Hillman, Hilary "Hippie" Gangl of Pierz, Bernard (Geri "Blondie") Gangl of Royalton, Rita (Roger) Hocking of Park Rapids, LaVern (Mike) Talberg of Buckman, Michael Gangl of Rice, Donna (Eric) Miller of Hillman, Daniel (Kelly) Gangl of Pierz, David Gangl of Pierz, Brian Gangl of Pierz and Debbie (Thomas) Talberg of Hillman; siblings, Agnes Medek of Pierz and Steve (Mary Ann) Gangl of Royalton; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Theresa (Kohlenberger) Gangl; infant brothers, Frank and Michael Gangl; brothers, Frank Gangl, John Gangl, Louis Gangl and Paul Gangl; and sisters, Theresa Przybilla, Mary McDonough, Catherine Brixius, and Anna Pohlkamp. Casket bearers will be his sons, Hilary "Hippie", Bernard, Michael, Daniel, David and Brian Gangl.
