Joseph A. Kroll, 89, resident of Royalton, Minnesota died Saturday, March 12 at the family farm in Bellevue Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 19 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton with Father Ken Popp, Father Roger Klassen and Father Tony Kroll concelebrating. Visitation will be on Friday, March 18 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the church in Royalton. The Christian Mothers Rosary will be said at 4:30 PM followed by Parish Prayers at 7:00 PM on Friday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Joseph A. Kroll was born March 19, 1926 in Bellevue Township, Morrison County, Minnesota to the late William and Rose (Cekalla) Kroll. He attended District #29 B country school through eighth grade. He was drafted into the United States Army and served his Country from November 14, 1944 until his honorable discharge on November 23, 1946. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Philippine Independence Ribbon Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After service he worked in the Twin Cities at Munsingwear, Sears and General Mills as a supervisor for the flour department. He also spent some time as a commercial truck driver before farming full-time. It was at the Prom Ballroom in St. Paul where he first danced with the gal that would become his future bride. Joe was united in holy matrimony to Helen V. Loscheider on June 24, 1952 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Pierz, MN. The couple made their home in Bellevue Township where they farmed. He and Helen moved into town in 1995, but Joe continued to farm with his son. In February 2005, Joe suffered congestive heart failure and in August of that same year he received an experimental LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) through the University of MN. Joe was the oldest and longest living LVAD patient in the world. Joe enjoyed farming, fishing, traveling, and playing dice, especially Horses and 654. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton, the Royalton American Legion Post, Disabled American Veterans, and he served 9 years on the Bellevue Township Board. Joe also assisted the U of MN with research projects on crop fertilization and water management and hog health in the 70s.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of 63 years of Royalton; children, RoseAnn Kroll of St. Paul, Duane (Linda) Kroll of Royalton, Maryjean Kroll of Berkeley, CA; four grandsons: Adam Joseph, Simon Anthony, Isaac and Kaden; siblings, Aloyis Kroll of Minneapolis, Mary Heinzen of Eagan, Cecilia Kroll of California, Marcella Zilkoski of Little Falls, Theresa White of Richfield, Irene (Richard) Ernst of Oklahoma City, OK, Evelyn (Bruce) Lindquist of Minneapolis, Fedalis (Magedeline) Kroll of Hoffman; sister-in-law, Lillian Kroll of Coon Rapids and many nieces and nephews and his beloved morning coffee companions and his sno-bird friends in AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rose Kroll; infant daughter; siblings, Caroline Kasprzyk, Sr. Felicia Kroll, Clara Kasprzyk , Francis Kroll, brothers Peter, Paul and George Kroll; along with several brothers and sisters-in-law.
