John K. "Bud" West, 79 year old resident of Little Falls, MN died Sunday, April 1 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, MN. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 5 at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls, MN. with Rev. Damen Heitmann. Friends may gather from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of service on Thursday at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls, MN. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, MN. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #46 and Randall VFW Post #9073 John K. West was born April 26, 1932 in Pine River, MN to the late Dale and Ivie (Johnson) West. As a young boy, his family moved to Little Falls, MN where he attended and graduated from Little Falls high school in 1950. Bud enlisted in the United States Army on February 17, 1953 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on February 7, 1955. Bud returned to Little Falls, MN and was united in marriage to Janet Opatz on January 28, 1955 at St. Adelbert's Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN. Bud was employed as an equipment supervisor for SJ Groves and Sons Construction in Minneapolis, MN for several years. The couple made their home in 36 states during Bud's working career. The couple returned to Little Falls, MN to enjoy their retirement years. Bud was active with the Little Falls American Legion Post #46 and the Randall V.F.W. Post #9073. Bud enjoyed hunting and all types of fishing Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janet (Opatz) West of Little Falls, MN; son, Jay West of Richfield, MN; daughter, Kim West of Little Falls, MN; grandson, Jonathon (Melanie) West of Sartell, MN and a great-grandson, Brayden West of Sartell, MN; siblings, Betty (Norris) Anderson of Little Falls, MN, Robert West of Richfield, MN, Glenn (Patricia) West of Little Falls, MN, Linda (Tom) Beutel of Sartell, MN, Janice (Roy) Hendricks of Sterling, KS, Kathy (Bill) Doroff of Little Falls, MN and sister-in-law, Annabel West of Alexandria, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Ivie West; son, Todd West; sister, Joyce (Patrick) Preimesberger; brothers, Dean West and Wayne West.
