John Strait

John Junior Strait, Jr. 69 year old resident of Hillman, MN, died Tuesday, September 17 at the St. St. Cloud Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, September 23 at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman, MN, with Jean Megorden officiating.Friends may gather from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Monday at the church.

John Junior Strait, Jr.was born September 26, 1943 in Minneapolis, MN to Mildred Roth and the late John Love Strait, Sr.. The family made their home in Minneapolis, MN for a few years. The family moved to Onamia, MN, where John attended and graduated from Onamia High School with the class of 1962.John was united in marriage to Betty Thomas on December 29, 1963 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Onamia, MN.The couple made their home in Hillman, MN. He worked in the construction industry in Minnesota and Montana for several years. John had a love of the outdoors.He was an avid goose hunter, duck hunter, deer hunter, elk hunter, bear hunter, turkey hunter, bow hunting, muzzle loading and fisherman. The family would take annual fishing trips to Lac Sioux in Canada.John enjoyed trap shooting and planting food plots for the wild life.He also participated in pool leagues.He was a member of Pheasants Forever, Deer Feeders Association and the Minnesota Water Fowlers Association.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 50 years, Betty Strait of Hillman, MN; mother-in-law, Tillie Thomas of Hillman, MN; children, Cindy (Kevin) Otremba of Hillman, MN, Timothy Strait of Hillman, MN; grandchildren, Amber Jones, Kristie (Mark) Wirth, Tyler Jones and significant other, Sarah Beck, Travis Jones and significant other, Krista Tretter; great-grandchildren, Makayla Sanborn, Dominic Sanborn, Aiden Jones, Aubree Jones, Hunter Chavez and two on the way; sisters-in-law, John (Louise) Thomas of Hillman, MN, Vickie (Doug) Sullivan of Hillman, MN, Sharon and (Chuck) Benson of Onamia, MN, Chet (Ruth) Thomas of Osage, MN, Donna Olson of Brooklyn Park, MN and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Love Strait, Sr, and Mildred Strait; father-in-law, Robert Thomas; brother-in-law, Lawrence Olson; nephew and niece, Kevin Thomas and Michelle Olson.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Rick Strutz, Mike Neis, Zack Neis, Justin Neis, Jimmy and Jesse Gratke, Trevor Armstrong, Jason Armstrong.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the family.
