Joan Zahler, 90 year old resident of Cushing, MN, passed away Tuesday, January 2 at Little Falls Care Center in Little Falls. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 6 at 11:00 A.M. at Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls with Father Patrick Hoeft officiating. The burial will be held on Monday, January 8 at 10:00 A.M. at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Joan Carol Zahler was born May 7, 1933 in Brownton, Minnesota to the late Harry and Lucille (Zimmerman) Sommerdorf. She attended Brownton Elementary School and graduated from Elk River High School. She was united in marriage to Donald Zahler on February 16, 1953 in Sioux City, Iowa. Joan worked the following jobs throughout her life: office administrator, homemaker, lumber and hardware store, house painter and restaurant owner. The couple enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, trips to their Mexico time share, trips to Alaska the Caribbean and cruises to Hawaii. She was a Christian Mothers and the Iron River, WI Chamber of Commerce.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Steve (Patti) Zahler of Cushing, Bryan Zahler of Laguna Vista, Tx; granddaughters, Jacklyn Zahler, Lee Zahler and Keri Kuklok; great-grandchildren, Natalee and Evan Kuklok.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald and a daughter-in-law, Bev Zahler.
