Irene Helen. Sobieck, 96 year old resident of Little Falls died Monday, August 7 at Little Falls Care Center in Little Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 11 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Herzing officiating. The burial will be held in the parish cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. and from 9:30-10:30 A.M. on Friday at Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls. The Christian Mothers will pray the rosary at 4:30 P.M. followed by Parish Prayer at 7:00 P.M.
Irene Helen (Zack) Sobieck was born June 20, 1921 on her mothers 21st birthday. Irene was the oldest child of John and Martha (Kalis) Zack. She attended a country school near Royalton and in 6th grade, moved with her family to Sobieski where they lived for 3 years. They then moved to Little Falls where Irene eventually worked for the Pine Edge Inn, The Buckman Hotel and Like Nu Cleaners. She then worked in Minneapolis, and in a factory job in Chicago for 3 years. In 1945, she came back to Little Falls where she married former neighbor Leo Sobieck in October 1945. Together they raised their four children Beverly, Lloyd, Harvey and Alice in Little Falls. Irene worked for a while at the Falls Ballroom, and then St. Gabriels Hospital for 16 years. Her hobbies included crocheting, playing cards, dancing, and spending time with her family. A woman of deep faith, Irene was a decades-long member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Christian Mothers, and a life member of the VFW auxiliary.
Irene is survived by her four children, Beverly (Gene) Storms of Eden Prairie, Lloyd (Carol) Sobieck of Bemidji, Harvey (Bridget) Sobieck of Grand Marais and Alice (Jim) Wright of Little Falls; grandchildren, Joshua Storms, Jacob Storms, Joseph Storms, John Sobieck, Ellen Sobieck, Leah Sobieck, Madeline Wright, Angela Wright; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Fite of Joliet, IL, MaryAnn LeMieur of Little Falls; brother, Willie (Mary) Zack of Little Falls and many nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Sobieck; parents, John and Martha Zack and a brother Alvin Zack.
