Ida Wedin

Ida Jane (Thiers) Wedin, 97 year old resident of Alexandria, MN formerly of Upsala, MN died Monday, March 23. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30 at 2:00 P.M. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala, MN with Rev. Trish Jorgenson officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemane Lutheran Cemetery in Upsala, MN. Friends may call from 12:00-2:00 P.M. at the church on Monday. Ida was born November 29, 1911 in Rural Burtrum, MN to the late John and Lillian (Tibbets) Thiers. She attended country school in the Burtrum and Grey Eagle, MN area. Ida was united in marriage to John E. Wedin on May 21, 1933 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle, MN. Ida was a wonderful homemaker raising the couple's four children, Robert, Judy, Joanne and Sandra. John died February 23, 1998. She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, listening to music, baking. She treasured making quilts for all the grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She loved spoiling all the grandchildren. Ida was a member of the Upsala American Legion, Dorcas Circle, Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Past President of the Wheatbelt Lodge Society of the BFL and E, Upsala Historical Society. She served on the Election Board for many years in Grand Forks, N.D. and Upsala, MN. Ida volunteered at the VA Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. She and John volunteered for many years at the Shrine Circus in Grand Forks, ND. Ida is survived by her children, Robert Wedin and wife, Phyllis, of Grand Forks, N.D., Judy Barta and husband, Stan, of Michigan, N.D., Joanne Eason and husband, Bob, of Osakis, MN, Sandra Kuepers and husband, Charles, of Upsala, MN; sister, Alpha Hebert and husband, George, of Davis, CA; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild due in June, 10 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren due in July; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillian (Tibbets) Thiers; husband, John February 23, 1998; great-grandson, Joshua Barta; sisters, Grayce Martinez, Rose LaBatte, Etta Marks and Lillian Huey; brothers, Bill Thiers, Frank Thiers, Eugene Thiers, Ben Thiers, Albert Thiers and Henry Thiers. In Lieu of Flowers Memorials are Preferred to Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala, MN or the Upsala Senior Center.
