Helen Kapus

Helen Kapus, age 88, of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Freedhem, MN, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls, MN. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 28th at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls, MN, with Rev. Gregg Valentine officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Harding, MN. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27th and 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 28th all at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls, MN. Helen was born on June 2, 1924, in Long Prairie, Todd County, Minnesota to the late Silas R. and Elsie G. (Pentz) Marcyes. She grew up southwest of Long Prairie in Reynolds Township. She attended school in Gutches Grove, MN through the eighth grade. Following her schooling, Helen lived at home and worked with her family on the farm. She moved to Seattle, WA, for two years and worked as a cashier in a supermarket. She returned to Minnesota and attended St. Cloud Beauty College. Helen was united in marriage to John Kapus on December 19, 1948 in San Pedro, CA. The couple lived in San Pedro for a short time and then returned to Long Prairie, MN. Helen and John purchased a farm near Freedhem, MN, where they farmed for 56 years. John died April 22, 2004. Helen later moved to Little Falls where she resided at the time of her death. She enjoyed crocheting, playing keyboard, gardening, flowers, crafts and taking her dog for walks. She especially enjoyed the time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her friends. Helen is survived by her children, Duane (Charlene) Kapus of Belle Prairie, MN, Gene (Donna) Kapus of Little Falls, MN, Lyle Kapus of Freedhem, MN, Delphine (Gordie) Meyer of Little Falls, MN and 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John, children, Frances Kapus, Eileen Kapus, Darrel Kapus and Jerome Kapus; brothers, Cedric, Leslie, Harland, Warren and Donald Marcyes and sisters, Bessie Petrie and Shirley Zigelman.
