Harold Monahan

Harold "Bud" Monahan, 83 year old resident of Little Falls, MN, died Friday, March 20 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 28 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN with Rev. Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, March 27 at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service Southeast Chapel in Little Falls, MN and from 9:00 A.M. until 10:15 A.M. on Saturday at the church. Parish prayers will be said at 5:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #46 and the Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112. Harold W. "Bud" Monahan was born to the late Mary Monahan and Irving Gibney on September 21, 1925 in St. Paul, Minnesota. When Bud was nine months old he went to live with his grandparents, Mary and John Monahan in Motley, MN. As a young child Bud and his grandparents moved to Little Falls, Minnesota where he attended St. Aloyisius Grade School and Little Falls High School. In 1943, Harold enlisted into the U.S. Navy. At this time he began his training at Farragut, Idaho and was then stationed in Bremerton, Washington. While Harold was awaiting deployment on the U.S.S. Washington to serve in the Pacific Corridor during World War II, he married the 'love of his life" Clara Bea Calhoun in Bremerton, Washington. on April 19, 1944. During his deployment he participated in 7 major battles. Harold was discharged in 1946 when he then returned to Bemidji, Minnesota joining his wife and daughter. Eventually, Harold and Bea along with their family moved back to Little Falls where he worked for his brother-in-law, John Bednark as a locksmith, shoemaker and Wizzer bike repairman. In 1950, Bud went to work for Roy B. Larson at Larson Motor Service. Together, he and Bea purchased Larson Motor Service in 1966. Throughout the years they received numerous awards for their hard work and achievements. Working side by side they retired in 1991. Harold enjoyed fishing with Bea, cruising the Mississippi on the Pontoon and watching the Minnesota Vikings and NASCAR.....Go Gordon #24! Harold is survived by his children, Kathy Hawkinson of Florence, MT, Mary Staninger and husband, Ken, of Missoula, MT, John Monahan and wife, Paula, of Little Falls, MN Barbara Liebel of Sartell, MN and Kim Liebel of Little Falls, MN, Tom Monahan and wife, Peggy, of Little Falls, MN, Patricia Adams and husband, Perry, of Houston, TX; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Tom Brokl and Janet Broxl Sagsetter both of Minnesota; cousins, Jerome Gibney of Oregon, Mary Jane Herman of Illinois, Betty Lodovisse of CA, Pat Gowan of MN, Babrara McHann of California and the Calhoun Family . He was preceded in death by his, wife, of 60 years, Clara Bea in 2004; granddaughter, Lindsey Rae Liebel in 2004 and son-in-law, Don Hawkinson in 1999.
