Gladys Lanners, 79, of Little Rock, MN, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Monday, April 8th at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Buckman, Mn, with Fr. Kenneth Popp officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Sunday, April 7th and 9-10am on Monday, April 8th all at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Buckman. There will be a Christian Mother's Rosary at 9am on Monday at the church. Gladys was born on March 20, 1934 in New Prague, MN to John and Emma (Simota) Trenda. She attended school in New Prague. After her schooling, she worked as a cook at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague and then as a house cleaner and cook for the Monsignor at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. While working as a waitress, she met Alfred, the love of her life. Six months later they were married on October 17, 1959. Gladys and Alfred moved to Clear Lake, SD for one year and then moved to the farm by Little Rock where they made their home and raised their 10 children. Gladys was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a Christian Mother. She enjoyed people and made friends wherever she was. She had many talents and enjoyed sharing these with friends. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, cooking, baking, playing cards, trips to the casino, and gardening. Gladys loved her family more than anything an cherished the times she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. When her health declined, she became a resident of St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls where she continued making friends and sometimes led the rosary. Throughout her life, Gladys relied on her faith in many circumstances. It sustained her through the children's and grandchildren's teenage years. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 53 years, Alfred of Little Rock, MN; children, David (Nancy) of Little Rock, Roger (Julie) of Royalton, Bill (Deb) of Sartell, Bob of Royalton, Shirley (Rick) Herold of Buckman, Ron (Sandy) of Buckman, Lois (Dean) Virnig of Pierz, Alan (Vicki) of Little Rock, Karen (Joe) Novotny of Foley; sisters MaryAnn (Germain) Hoffman of Shakopee, MN, Emily Ledger of Fairfield, IA, Rosie (Joe) Schoenecker of Bloomington, MN, Dorothy Vnuck of Coon Rapids, MN, Cathy Ruter of New Prague; brother, John (Leona) Trenda of San Jose, CA; 22 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by her son, Michael in 2002; parents, John & Emma and brothers, Frank and Richard.
