Gerald Jerry Fischer, 69 year old resident of Pierz, MN died Friday, April 6 at the St. Cloud Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 12 at 10:30 A.M. with Father Kenneth Popp officiating. The burial will be held in the parish cemetery. A visitation will be held 4:00-8:00 P.M Wednesday and from 9:00 A.M. until 10:15 A.M. on Thursday, all visitations times will be held at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Pierz, MN. A Parish Prayer will be said at 4:30 P.M. followed by The Knights of Columbus at 6:00 PM. The Pierz American Legion will provide the military rites.
Jerry was born August 10, 1948 to the late Raymond and Theresa (Kimman) Fischer. He grew up in Buh and Granite Townships, Morrison County. He attended school in Pierz and graduated from Pierz Memorial High School with the class of 1966. He was drafted into the United States Army. After his discharge, he worked for his future father-in-law at Pierz Farmers Mills grinding feed for live stock. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Pohlkamp on April 27, 1973 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Pierz. The couple made their home in Pierz. Jerry worked for several years as a rural mail carrier for the United States Post Office. The couple owned and operated JM Bar in Pierz from 1977 until 1997. He also worked for a short time at Redwood Industries in Pierz. Jerry loved the game of baseball; he was a founding member of the Pierz Legion Memorial Park. He was an umpire for many years, umpiring high school baseball, softball and mens league softball. He also enjoyed attending area games and was the biggest fan of his two boys Jamie and Shawn. He had great joy watching his grandchildren continue with the game he loved so much. He was also known to enjoy a game of cards from time to time. Jerry was an active member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, serving as an usher for many years. He was also an active member of the Pierz Fire Department, Pierz Lions and the Knights of Columbus.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Ann Fischer of Pierz, children, Shawn (Beth) of Little Falls and Jamie Fischer of Pierz; grandchildren, Ellie Fischer, Kirby Fischer and Tyler Fischer; siblings, Janet (Linus) Huver of Alexandria, Eileen (John) Pohlkamp of Pierz, Dennis (Mary) Fischer of Pierz, David (Laure) Fischer of Pierz, sisters-in-law, Jean Fischer of Elk River and Sheryl Fischer of Nowthen.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Theresa Fischer; siblings, Jerome and his wife, Sue Fischer and Leon Fischer.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Pierz Legion Memorial Park.
