George "Orson" Kowitz

George Orson Kowitz a long time resident of Royalton, died August 11, 2013 at his current residence in Shakopee, MN.
George Orson was born July 10, 1921, in the Township of Buchman MN, to the late George John and Marie (Stricker) Kowitz. He was raised in Royalton, where he attended and graduated from Royalton High School . Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps; August, 1942.He was stationed in California for basic training then deployed to China near the end of WWII.During his military service career, he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant with rifle sharp shooter qualifications and was trained as a Metal Smith.He was honorably discharged May, 1946. Upon returning to Royalton, he met and was united in marriage to Joy Duea, on October 25, 1947 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Dixville. The couple made their home in Royalton. After various employment opportunities that included relocating outside of Minnesota, George Orson always returned to Minnesota and eventually found long term employment as a welder with Falls Machine in Little Falls. After retiring, he enjoyed bowling, watching televised sports, had a love of nature, and was involved in numerous volunteer activities for the Veterans Administration, Morrison County, his church and community. He was active with the American Legion, the Township Board and St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Royalton.
His family remembers him for his wisdom, work ethic, humor, strength and engaging social nature.
Also remembering him as a loving and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather are his children; Karen Jo Moonen, Keith (Mary) Kowitz, Candace Kowitz, and Cara Lee (Dave) Theis, grandchildren; Lisa(Mike), Erik(Michala), Tricia(Blaine), Aimee(Jon), Joshua(Adrienne), Jessica(Justin), Nick(Stephani), Jacey and 13 great grandchildren; brother Harvey(Doris) and sister Jette Lee(Kenneth), as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy, his parents, sister, Shirley Justin and son-in-law, Dave Moonen.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 14th at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls. Friends may greet the family prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home in Little Falls.Fellowship will continue after the service with refreshments in the community room of the funeral home followed by burial at the Riverside Cemetery in Royalton.
