Frank H. Hankes

Frank H. Hankes age 93, of Little Falls, MN passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls, MN. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls with Morrison County Chaplain, Gregg Valentine officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112 and the Little Falls American Legion Post #46. Interment will be at a later date in Darling Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Frank Henry Hankes was born on November 8, 1916 in St. Cloud, MN to the late Frank & Ella (Robinson) Hankes. He grew up on a farm west of the Camp Ripley gates and attended country school. He had a rather extensive military career. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, the United States National Guard, Minnesota State Guard and the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Alice F. Wittwer on August 29, 1940. The couple made their home next to the farm where he grew up. They then moved to California and returned to Minnesota. Frank enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #46 and the Little Falls, V.F.W. Post #1112. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jean (Danny) Shaw of Missouri and Dale (Barb) Hankes of St. Francis, MN; grandchildren, Steve Hankes of Little Falls, MN, Gordon (Tiffanie) States of Missouri, Mark Hankes of Avon, MN, Amanda Jenson of Columbia Heights, MN and Sarah Hankes of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Hankes, Lisa Hankes, Sara Hankes and Jordyan States. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice (Wittwer) Hankes (March 25, 1983); son, Gary Hankes (January 25, 1983) and siblings, Elmer, Orlo, Ruby, Della and Helen.
