He served as a teacher and counselor for a high school seminary in Indiana and for a high school in New York, as a Crosier vocation director, director of novices, as secretary for the Provincial, and as the Asmat mission procurator. He served in parishes in Michigan, Phoenix and Sun City, AZ. This in-depth experience of the mission to the Asmat people inspired Fr. Joe to preach the missions for many years in hundreds of parishes around the country.
