Florence Amanda Stattelman was born on May 15, 1916 in Clinton, Minnesota, the youngest of six children born to Henry & Elizabeth (Schaller) Stattelman. She grew up on a farm in southwest Minnesota. Following her graduation from high school, Florence held a variety of jobs from waitressing to child care. She moved to Pontiac, Michigan where she worked at the Wilson Foundry for several months. During World War II, she was offered the opportunity to work for the F.B.I in Washington, D.C. and worked there for 31 years. She retired in January of 1977 and moved back to Long Prairie to be near her sister, Agnes Lestina. Florence enjoyed spending time with Agnes playing Yahatzee and Scrabble. She was an avid reader of mysteries and historical novels. She also enjoyed gardening sewing and crocheting making many items for the Catholic fair. In April, 2003, Florence moved to the Valley View Estates Assisted Living in Long Prairie and eventually to the Long Prairie Nursing Home where she resided at the time of her death. Even though she never married or had children of her own, she has left a legacy for her many nieces and nephews.
