Greiwe, Fr. Edward Vincent, OSC. Born April 1, 1937, in Muncie, Indiana, to Paul and Mary Thelma (Carter) Greiwe, the eldest of eight children. Died May 18, 2015, at the Mille Lacs Health System Hospital in Onamia, Minnesota, at the age of 78.
Fr. Ed enrolled in college at the Crosiers Our Lady of the Lake Seminary in Syracuse, Indiana, in 1954, became a novice in the Crosier Order in 1957, professed First Vows on August 28, 1958, in Hastings, Nebraska, and was ordained a priest on May 23, 1964, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Fr. Ed was sent to the Asmat rainforests of Papua, Indonesia, in 1964 where he served until 1995 in leadership positions for the Crosiers and the new Diocese of Agats. He loved the people of Asmat and his Crosier life in the missions for all those years. His years since were spent in development for the Crosiers and support for the communitys life together in Shoreview, Anoka, and Onamia, Minnesota.
Fr. Ed is survived by three brothers, Ron (Danene) Indianapolis, Indiana; Jim (Melanie) Fishers, Indiana; Tom (Bev) Indianapolis, Indiana; and four sisters, Marilyn Weaver, Rita Brocki, Jeanette (Jim) Carnes, Muncie, Indiana; Joan (Roy) Patterson, Germantown, Tennessee; and extended families, his Crosier confreres, and the people of the Church of Asmat.
Funeral services for Fr. Greiwe will be held at the Crosier Priory Church in Onamia, Minnesota, on Thursday, May 21, 2015, with the Reception of the Body and the Office for the Dead at 4:00 p.m. Vigil will be kept until 7:00 p.m. when the funeral Mass will begin. Hospitality will follow the liturgy. Private burial at the Priory Cemetery will take place on Friday.
