Everett L. Smith, 93 year old resident of Little Falls, MN passed away Thursday, December 27, 2007, at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 31, 2007 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, MN, with Fr. Gerald Dalseth officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Sauk Centre, MN. Visitation will be held from 6:00 a" 8:00 P.M. Sunday, Dec. 30th and 8:30 a" 9:30 A.M. Monday, Dec. 31st at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Home in Pierz, MN. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Sunday followed by Knights of Columbus Office of the Dead at 7:45 P.M. Everett L. Smith was born on January 10, 1914 in Westport, Stearns County, Minnesota to the late John J. & Mary (Cosgrove) Smith. As a child, he moved with his family to Swanville, MN where he attended Swanville Public School. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Hanley on November 3, 1942 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Swanville, MN. The couple made their home in Minneapolis. Everett served in the United States Army from 1942 a" 1946 during World War II. During that time he spent 15 months in India and Burma. Following the service, he returned to Central Minnesota and became a partner in A.J. Smith Implement Co. both in Swanville and Little Falls, MN, until 1956. He then moved to Oregon City, Oregon where he owned the John Deere dealership. In 1960, he started Smith's Implement dealing in used machinery and service. The couple lived many years in the Pierz area before moving to Little Falls. Everett was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, the Catholic Order of Foresters and Little Falls Knights of Columbus. Some of Everett's special interests included gardening, working on old tractors and engines and wine making. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Larry (Sandy) Smith of Crookston, MN, Michael (Sharon) Smith of Blaine, MN, Patrick (Mary Schmidtbauer) Smith of Ramsey, MN and Gregory (Mary Pat McNeil) Smith of Mound, MN; sisters, Frances Schenk of St. Paul, MN and Lenore Simons of Whitefish, MT; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. & Mary (Cosgrove) Smith; wife, Dorothy (Hanley) Smith (Sept. 27, 2002) and brothers, Raymond and A.J. Smith.
