Evelyn A. Smith, 89 year old resident of Pierz, MN, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the Pierz Villa in Pierz. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 14, 2009 at St. Johns Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN. with Rev. David Maciej officiating. Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery in Pierz, MN. A visitation will be held from 5-8 PM Sunday, September 13, 2009 and from 8 to 10 A.M. Monday at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz, MN. Christian Mothers will pray a rosary at 5:30 P.M followed by Parish Prayers at 7 P.M. Sunday evening at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz. Evelyn Agnes Smith was born February 25, 1920 in Lastrup, MN to the late Joseph and Anna (Otremba) Gohl. She grew up in Lastrup, MN. The family later moved to Pierz, MN where she attended School District #78 through eighth grade. Following school Evelyn worked as a housekeeper and later as a short order cook at a hospital in Minneapolis for two years. She returned to the Pierz area and worked as a Census Recorder. Evelyn was united in marriage on October 12, 1948 to Frances Smith at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, MN. The couple farmed two miles south of Little Falls for 34 years. In 1987, they moved to Lastrup. Frances died March 6, 1993. Evelyn continued to live in Lastrup until her death. Evelyn was a member of St. John's Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing Bingo and cards and especially, spending time with her family and relatives. Evelyn is survived by her sisters, Delores "Dellie" (Robert) Tretter of Aurora, MN and Helen Jean (Leonard) Larson of Little Falls, MN; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great- nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna (Otremba) Gohl; husband, Frances Smith; brothers, Leonard, Lawrence, Alfred and Elmer Gohl; sisters, Regina "Jean" Carlson, Therisa Waytashek, Agnes Veith and Marion Veith. Honorary casket bearers will be the Christian Mother's. Serving as casket bearers will be Joel Larson, John Tretter, Duane Larson, Keith Gohl, Steven Waytashek and Frank Athmann.
