Esther Botz-Prom

Esther M. Botz Prom, age 92 of Sauk Rapids, MN and formerly of Sauk Centre, MN passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at the Good Shepherd Memory Cottages in Sauk Rapids, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2875 10th Ave. NE, Sauk Rapids, MN with Father Ralph Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 19th in St. Pauls Cemetery in Sauk Centre, MN.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the hour service on Monday, January 19th at the church.

Esther Marie Laing was born November 6, 1922 in Freeport, Stearns County, MN to the late George & Agnes (Frevel) Laing.She grew up in Freeport and graduated from Melrose High School with the Class of 1940.She was united in marriage to Cyril J. Botz on June 23, 1941 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, MN.Following their marriage, Esther & Cyril lived in Freeport, Willmar and then Sauk Centre from 1954 -1988. Esther was a stay-at-home mom, lovingly raising their four kids, David, Judi, Ginny & Nettie.In September of 1988, Esther & Cyril moved to Sauk Rapids. Cyril died June 30, 1992.After Cyrils death, Esther continued to live in Sauk Rapids. In 1999, she moved to Shepherd Oaks Apartments in Sauk Rapids. It was there that Esther met and later married Ray Prom on December 13, 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids. Following their marriage, Esther & Ray continued to live at Shepherd Oaks Apartments.In January, 2014, Esther moved to the Good Shepherd Memory Cottageswhere she resided until her death.Esther was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids, a former member of St. Pauls Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, St. Monicas Society, Sauk Rapids Senior Citizens, St. Peters Mission Group, the Sauk Rapids V.F.W. Auxiliary #6992 and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).She enjoyed family gatherings, volunteering for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in the St. Cloud area, playing cards, crafts, reading, going for rides in the country, Dairy Queen treats, and especially, being a member of the Good Shepherd Community.

Left to cherish their memories of Esther are her husband, Ray Prom of Sauk Rapids, MN; daughters, Judi (Spencer) Buerkle of Sauk Rapids, MN, Virginia Ginny (Jim) Gasser of Sauk Rapids, MN, Lynette Nettie Emblom of Little Falls, MN; grandchildren, Christopher Emblom, Dr. Dustin (Kelly) Emblom and Kayla Emblom; her great-grandchildren, Kaeo Stephen Salvador and Macy Esther Emblom;three step-sons and five step-daughters and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cyril Botzin June, 1992;son, David Botz in December, 1962; son-in-law, Steve Emblom in December, 2012; her parents, George & Agnes (Frevel) Laing;brothers, Elmo & Richard (Dick) Laing and sisters, Rosetta Rosie Prince & Laverne Vernie Brunner.
