Ervin "Swede" Schubert, age 92, of Harding, MN, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the Pierz Villa in Pierz, MN. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding, MN, with Fr. David Maciej officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 14th at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz, MN, with a Rosary by the Holy Name Society at 4:30 p.m. followed by Parish Prayers at 6:00 p.m. and Knights of Columbus Office of the Dead at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Ervin (Swede) Frank Schubert, son of Frank & Magdalene (Sagorski) Schubert, was born on May 24, 1920 in Morrison County. He attended a country school. He was united in marriage to Louise Schroeml on February 8, 1941 at Holy Cross Church in Harding, MN. The couple made their home on a farm in Platte Lake Township where they raised their five boys. Swede worked at Northern Pacific Railroad where he served his apprenticeship as a boilermaker. He then worked with the Boilermaker Union No. 647 of Minneapolis, and on contract at different places, including Geneva Steel Plant, Provo, Utah; Fort Randall Dam, Pickstown, South Dakota; Duluth Steel Plant; Granite Falls, Silver Bay, Taconite Harbor, Cohasset, Fergus Falls, and Brainerd, Minn. He worked for Potlatch Paper Company as a certified High Pressure Steam Welder for 25 years. Swede enjoyed baseball games, wrestling, driving mules, hunting squirrels and his faithful dog, Sally. He was a trustee for Holy Cross Church in Harding for many years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus. He served on the Board at Mid-Minnesota Credit Union. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Dave (Beverly) Schubert of Brainerd; Eddie (Janice) Schubert of Pierz; Gary (Shari) Schubert of Waikoloa, HI; Alvin Schubert of Brainerd; and Tim Schubert of Pierz; sister-in-law Stephanie Schubert of Pierz; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Swede was preceded in death by his wife Louise, his parents, brother Ed and sisters Angeline Boser and Bernice Hoheisel.
