Elaine Julianna Gerwing

Elaine Gerwing, 85 year old resident of Pierz, MN, passed away Wednesday, April 6 at the Harmony House in Pierz, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 9 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, MN with Rev. Gerald Dalseth officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 PM on Friday, April 8 at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz, MN and from 8:30-9:30 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Christian Mothers will pray the Rosary at 4:30 PM followed by Parish Prayers at 5:30 PM on Friday evening at the funeral home. Elaine Julianna Wagner was born January 25, 1926 in Lastrup, Minnesota at her parents' home. She was the daughter of Theodore and Molly (Boehmer) Wagner. She was united in marriage to Reinhart John Gerwing on September 4, 1945 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, Minnesota. The couple farmed in Pierz until retiring in 1978. After retiring, Reinhart and Elaine traveled around the United States and Canada. Elaine enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, and spending time with her family and friends. The grandchildren will treasure the afghans that grandma made for them. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers'. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Reinhart Gerwing of Pierz, MN; children, James (Doreen) Gerwing of Pierz, MN, Larry (Louise) Gerwing of Big Lake, MN, Judy (Mike) Huebner of Little Falls, MN, Patty (Tom) May of Coon Rapids, MN; siblings, Jerry (Rosie) Wagner of Pierz, MN, Jim (Roseanne) Wagner of Lastrup, MN, Sr. Annella Wagner, O.S.B. of Duluth, MN; son-in-law, Mark Niznik of Eagan, MN; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Marilyn in 2000; sister, Vange Block in 2008.
