Edward Stangl, age 90, of Pierz, MN, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016, at St. Gabriels Hospital in Little Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 14 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Pierz with Fr. Kenneth Popp officiating. The burial will be held in the parish cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Sunday and from 9:00-10:00 A.M. on Monday at the Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz, MN.The Knights of Columbus Office of the Dead and 6:00 P.M. and followed by the Parish Prayers at 7:00 P.M.. The Military Rites will be conducted by the Pierz American Legion Post # 341.
Edward Joseph Stangl was born May 9, 1925 in Pierz, Minnesota to the late Joseph and Anna (Schraut) Stangl. He attended District #98 school in Pierz Township. He served his Country in the United States Army from June 27, 1945 until his honorable discharge on November 25, 1946. Ed received the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal while serving his Country. He was united in marriage to Lucille Banach on June 20, 1951 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Pierz, MN. The couple made their home in Pierz Township. Ed worked for Burlington Northern Rail Road for 27 Years. He farmed for several years in Pierz Township retiring in 1993. Ed served on the Pioneer Lake Insurance Board of Directors for 52 years and was an Assessor of Pierz Township for 12 years. He enjoyed coffee in the morning with friends, playing cards with friends and neighbors and gardening. Ed and Lucille were God-Parents to 11 nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church where he served as an usher for 38 years, the Pierz American Legion Post #341 and the Knights of Columbus.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lucille Stangl of Pierz, MN; siblings, Laura Kapsner of Pierz, MN, Urban (Viola) Stangl of Pierz, MN, Marvin (Mardelle) Stangl of Pierz, MN; sisters-in-law, Marie Stangl of Pierz, MN, Alice Matlock of Pierz, MN, Catherine Meyer of Pierz, MN and Ardelle (Steve) Wentworth of Brainerd, MN and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Stangl; brothers, Conrad (Laura) Stangl and Jerome Stangl; sisters, Barbara (Frank) Millner, Elizabeth (Ben) Becker and Gertrude (Al) Kapsner; brother-in-law, Ed Kapsner; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Stangl and Marion Stangl.
The casket bearers will be: Jerry Kapsner, Warren Kapsner, Danny Stangl, Jeff Millner, Allen Stangl, David Becker and Gene Kapsner.
